Now, they'll just age you beyond your years:(
Use two neutral colors and blend them for a natural look.
We're always told that over 40's should steer clear of shadows that have
glimmer or shine, but trying to find plain, flat colors isn't easy.
It really depends on how it looks on YOUR eyes.
So be honest with yourself. If it looks good - wear it. If it doesn't - don't!

What's the Right Shadow Color for You?
Women with warm, chocolate-colored eyes should keep their shadows in the brownish-gold family. "In general, you'll want to look for gold, peach, and light brown shades, but if you want to take it up a notch, try purple hues instead."
Green-eyed gals should shop for earthy tones like beige and tan. Big night out? "Take it up a notch with a charcoal or hunter green shade," says Napoleon Perdis, makeup artist and creator of NP Set Cosmetics.
Ladies with sapphire irises should keep their, ahem, eyes open for gray-blue undertones, according to Perdis. "If you really want to play up the blue, try mauve shadows. It brings out the blue and will make you look irresistible."
"Bronzes, coppers, and golds are fabulous for hazel eyes. They add a sparkly sheen and keep people guessing what color your eyes really are," teases Perdis. Metallic colors will also help show-off any multi-colored flecks you might come by naturally. Lavendars are beautiful on you and will bring out the green tones.
